Here's a story about this Steam Locomotive. This Steam Loco is 70013 Oliver Cromwell. A look at the locomotive that was to be the star of the last days of steam. Seen here in shed with enthusiasts admiring it. The last British Rail Steam Locomotive to have a routine heavy overhaul at Crewe Works. It ran from 3rd October 1966. It was intended from then to be preserved and it was prepared for the end of steam specials. If it were to fail during these duties. It could have been ruthlessly withdrawn. Plenty more on this engine later. On 3rd March 2018. Oliver Cromwell hauled a special from Ealing Broadway to York. The last run before the expiry of its boiler certificate. It then moved to the Great Central Railway where the boiler was inspected and allowed to run on the GCR until 31st December of that year. In 2019. It was withdrawn from service to be overhauled at the GCR. But is now back on the main line.
