The Tissington Trail. It opened in 1899. It closed in 1954. Ashbourne to Buxton. Ashbourne, Thorpe Cloud, Tissington, Alsop en le Dale, Hartington, Parsley Hay, Hurdlow, Dowlow Halt, Hindlow, Higher Buxton and Buxton. A railway with 2 distinctive sections. 1 dating from 1830 and the other a brand new line that together became a through route in 1899. Serving nothing. But a few scattered villages along its route over the exposed Peak District Plateau. The Southern Part came alive at weekends and bank holidays bringing ramblers to visit the scenic delights of Dovedale. All this ended in 1963 and within a few years. The entire railway except for a short section that still serves quarries near Buxton had closed. Since then. The Southern Section from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay has reopened as a footpath and cycleway known as the Tissington Trail.
