Here's a story about this Steam Locomotive. This Steam Loco is a Castle Class 4-6-0 No. 5081 Lockheed Hudson. Built on 31st May 1939 at Swindon Works as Penrice Castle. Lockheed Hudson is seen here heading a return south freight from Hereford in May 1963. One of a large class of 171 Locomotives. It had a name change in January 1941. In common with several of its classmates. It was renamed in tribute to the RAF Aircraft of the period. In this case. An RAF bomber. The locomotive was designed by Charles Collett the chief mechanical engineer of the GWR. It's last allocation was Cardiff East Dock from where it was withdrawn on 31st October 1963 for scrapping at R/S Hayes and Birds, Tremains Yard in Bridgend. It was broken up on 30th June 1964.
