A Class 91. No. 91004. Bo Bo 6480 hp. After 34 years and 2 generations of Diesel Power. The promised East Coast Electrification finally materialised. The Class 91s were built at Crewe and are theoretically capable of 225 KPH (140 MPH). They were originally described as the Intercity 225. They entered service in March 1989 and of the locomotives No. 91010 achieved a record of 161.7 MPH on a test run down Stoke Bank in September 1989. 35 years after a French 1500 volt DC Electric Locomotive achieved 151 MPH which is still a record for a British Locomotive. Now operated by Virgin Trains East Coast all are still in service. No. 91004 is captured on test pausing at Grantham in August 1988.
