Norfolk Southern Intermodal passing through Homestead from Pittsburgh PA with NS 4001 second in line on the head end. Norfolk Southern 4001 the Blue, yellow, and gray sister to NS 4000 went through the same transformation originally a D9-40C built in 1995 converted around the same time as her sister from DC traction to AC traction and redesignated as AC44C6M. 4001 wouldn't go incident free as on April 14th 2017 it would be involved in a derailment near McVeytown PA causing severe damage to her cab and rear hood section, Norfolk Southern would opt to repair 4001 and in 2020 she'd return to service.
