Here's a story about this Steam Locomotive. This Steam Loco is an A4 4-6-2 No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley. The location is Carlisle Station and in the distance can be seen looking very smart Coronation Class 4-6-2 No. 46256 Sir William A Stanier FR. Both are running various legs of The Scottish Lowlander Tour on 26th September 1964 assisted by A4 No. 60009 Union of South Africa. Phil was on the tour from Crewe and back to Warrington. Sir Nigel and Union of South Africa have been preserved. But Sir William A Stanier FRS was shockingly cut up at Cashmores of Great Bridge in December 1964. So being in such cosmetically excellent condition can probably be put down to overnight work by a group of enthusiasts. This iconic engine had only 3 more months in service.
