Here's a story about this Steam Locomotive. This Steam Loco is a Jubilee Class 4-6-0 No. 45695 Minotaur. This badly damaged engine was involved in a crash at Broadheath near Altrincham on 18th January 1964 near No 3 Signal Box on the Arpley Line. A Signalman wanted to take a goods train off the main line for the Liverpool to York Mail to pass through. He made a mistake with the signal and sent the rear guards van and rear wagons of the goods train back on to the Main Line. No. 45695 hauling the mail train ran into them at around 40MPH causing it to crash into a bridge and sustain the damage that we see here. The engine was taken to Altrincham where it remained for 2 months before it was cut up at JS Parker, Broadheath near Altrincham. Fortunately and perhaps amazingly no one was seriously injured in the crash. No. 45695 Minotaur is a member of the Jubilee Class built by Crewe Works in 1936. Its last shed was Farnley Junction.
