Here's a story about this Diesel Locomotive. This Diesel Loco is a Class 42 Warship Class D838 Rapid. It's 1963 and at Hereford. We see a mixture of Steam and Diesel as D838 Rapid leaves with a long passenger train. Rapid was built at the North British Locomotive Works in Glasgow and entered service in September 1960. It was withdrawn in March 1971 and cut up at BREL Swindon in March 1972. The Warship Class was named after Royal Navy Warships and HMS Rapid was one such ship. It has through the ages been a popular name for Warships. The last one being an R Class Destroyer H32 launched in 1942. In 1952. She was converted to a frigate before being sunk as an international target in 1981.
