The Heads of the Valleys Line. It opened in 1879. It closed in 1958. Abergavenny to Merthyr Tydfil. Abergavenny, Abergavenny Brecon Road, Govilon, Gilwern Halt, Clydach, Brynmawr, Beaufort, Trevil, Nantybwch, Rhymney Bridge and Merthyr Tydfil. The heavily engineered and steeply graded Heads of the Valleys Railway between Abergavenny and Merthyr Tydfil was both costly to build and operate. It provided the London & North Western Railway with a back door route to Cardiff and Newport Docks. But by the 1950s. Traffic was in decline. Following closure in 1958. A section of this highly scenic line through the Clydach Gorge has reopened as a Footpath and Cycleway.
