Eridge to Polegate.
Opened between 1849 and 1880. Closed between 1965 and 1968.
Eridge, Rotherfield & Mark Cross, Mayfield, Heathfield, Waldron & Horam Road, Hellingly, Hailsham and Polegate.
First opened as a 3 mile branch line from Polegate to Hailsham in 1849. The Cuckoo Line was extended north another 17 and a half miles by the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway to Heathfield and Eridge in 1880. Closure also came in 2 stages with the northerly section closing in 1965 and the remaining short branch line to Hailsham closing in 1968. Since then. The section between Heathfield and Polegate was reopened as a popular footpath and cycleway known as the Cuckoo Trail.
