Here's a story about this Steam Locomotive. This Steam Loco is a Black 5 4-6-0 No. 45156 Ayrshire Yeomanry. It's August 1968. The last month of regular steam on British Railways and one of only 4 named Stanier Black 5s stands in a bay at Manchester Exchange. Ayrshire Yeomanry was built at Armstrong Whitworth in July 1935. It was withdrawn in August 1968 from 24B Rose Grove after working the last of the specials and cut up at TW Ward Beighton in Sheffield 4 months later. There were originally 5 named Black 5s. The 5th being No. 45155 The Queens Edinburgh. But this one had the name removed in 1944. Some preserved Black 5s have been named. But only Nos. 45154 Lanarkshire Yeomanry, 45156 Ayrshire Yeomanry, 45157 The Glasgow Highlander and 45158 Glasgow Yeomanry were originally named and retained their names almost until withdrawal. None were preserved.
