Golfers Tramway. Ryde to Camber Sands. Opened between 1895 and 1908. Closed in 1939. Rye, Golf Links Halt and Camber Sands. Originally opened in 1895 to convey golfers to Rye Golf Club. The Narrow Gauge Rye & Camber Tramway also proved very popular with day trippers. The line was extended to Camber Sands in 1908 and remained in operation until the outbreak of the Second World War when it was requisitioned by the Admiralty. It never reopened after the war and was sold for scrap in 1947. Today much of the route of this diminutive railway can be followed on foot.
