Armathwaite station was opened by the Midland railway in May 1876 and was designed by John Holloway Sanders. The design is very similar to others on the S&C and was built from local sandstone. It was closed in May 1970 when passenger trains ceased operations on the S&C but after much protesting the station re-opened with the line in July 1986. The station building itself is now a private house however when I visited there was little activity. Armathwaite served as the terminus of the S&C between February 2016 and March 2017 following the landslip at Eden Brows which closed the line to the north for over a year. #trainspotting #lineside #station #train
