Here's a story about this Steam Locomotive. This Steam Loco is WD No. 90386. Darlington Works is seen here at an open day in September 1964 and what better star of the show than an immaculate ex works WD 90386. It was one of a class of 733 locomotives based on the Stanier LMS 8F as reworked by RA Riddles to prioritise low cost and the need for powerful locomotives at the expense of good looks due to the ongoing war. This one was built at the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow going into service in January 1944 and attached to the War Department with the number 78592. It was purchased from the department by the fledgling British Railway in November 1949 and given the number 90386. In 1950. It could be found allocated to Motherwell and its last shed was Dunfermline Upper from where it was withdrawn in April 1967 and cut up at Motherwell Machinery and scrap 5 months later. The saddle tank peeping from the shed is 0-6-0ST No. 68011 another RA Riddles designed ex war department locomotive. It was built in 1944 by the Hunslet Engineering Company and delivered to the war department in May of that year. Sold to the LNER in 1946 with the number 8011 and then transferred to British Rail on nationalisation and given the number 68011. It was withdrawn from Darlington in May 1965 and cut up at Cohens of Cargo Fleet 5 months later.
