Here's a story about the erecting shop at Darlington Works in 1964. A look here into a typical railway workshop as locomotives are lined up partway through various stages of maintenance. The nearest to the camera is Thompson designed LNER B1 4-6-0 No. 61330 built at the North British Locomotive Works in Glasgow and entering service in June 1948 at 35A New England. It was in Darlington Works for a total of 43 days from 7th September 1964. The last shed was Thornton Junction from where it was withdrawn on 19th November 1966 and scrapped the following month at Motherwell Machinery and Scrap at Wishaw. The next engine is No. 75059. A Riddles designed Standard Class 4 built at Swindon Works and entering service in April 1957. It was withdrawn from Carnforth in July 1967 and scrapped at Campbells of Airdrie 5 months later.
