Designed by Richard Maunsell for the South Eastern and Chatham Railway in 1917. The N Class 2-6-0s were another common sight on the LSWR main line west of Exeter. Here's No. 31871 crosses Meldon Viaduct west of Okehampton with a short stopping train on 25th August 1963. Another member of this class No. 31874 was saved for preservation after spending nearly 10 years at Woodhams Scrapyard in Barry.
