Since 2016, an adapted version of Alstom Prima is being assembled in Astana, as are TE33A diesel locos. About one hundred locomotives have already been produced, but despite the relatively small share of electrified lines only about one third or a half of trains are being pulled by them while others are still hauled by VL80s.
