As well as being a useful diversionary route when the East Coast Main Line was closed. The Waverley Route was also an important Anglo Scottish freight route. An Edinburgh St Margaret's ex LNER Class V2 2-6-2 No. 60813 was a regular performer in the route and is seen here near Stow with a fitted freight circa 1960. The line from Edinburgh to Galashiels and Tweedbank may reopen in 2014.
