It's no myth that the main batches of BR's (British) "Warship" Class had a scary running defect: at around 84.5mph & while under full power, the leading pair of wheels on the leading bogie used to lift by a few millimetres when hauling express passenger trains on British metals. A (Late) great friend of mine used to drive these machines on Britain's Western Region and he adamantly testified to this phenomenon.
