In its last year of operation over the Somerset & Dorset. The Southbound Pines Express climbs the 1 in 50 gradient out of Bath to the summit at the exit of Combe Down Tunnel on 23rd April 1962. The train double headed by BR Standard Class 5MT 4-6-0 No. 73051 and rebuilt West Country Class 4-6-2 No. 34046 Braunton since preserved is about to enter the unventilated single bore hell hole of Devonshire Tunnel.
