Here's a story about this Diesel Locomotive. This Diesel Loco is a Class 55 Deltic D9001. It's May 1963 and in a yard comprising mainly steam traction Deltic D9001 heads away from Doncaster Station with a rake of 7 maroon BR Coaches. Still 5 years to go before the end of main line steam. But Diesel is starting to get a foothold and in other parts of the network. It will be joined by electric traction. Things were changing and changing fast. The locomotive was built by EE/VF English Electric/Vulcan Foundry and was introduced in February 1961. It received its TOPS number. Total Operations Processing System 55001 in February 1974 and was named St Paddy. It was withdrawn in January 1980 and cut up at Doncaster Works the following month.
