When completed in 1890. The mighty forth bridge was the engineering wonder of the world. Here's an ex LNER Class D49 4-4-0 No. 62704 Stirlingshire heads a stopping train of blood and custard coaches for Stirling across the bridge in June 1957. In the foreground is the car ferry William Wallace which plied to and fro across the Firth of Forth until the opening of the forth road bridge in 1964.
