On 1st November 1873. The first train from Taunton steamed slowly into the newly completed wooden terminus buildings of Barnstaple Victoria Road to the east of Barnstaples town centre. The railway scheme authorised in 1864 had taken nearly 10 years to construct the 43 Miles required.
