The Jamster
Today, 22nd July 2024, the railway family lost its top man at 95 years old, Sir Kenneth Grange. Sir Kenneth was responsible for the iconic design of the HST, the best diesel passenger train ever built (apart from the class 142, obviously!) The HST, Intercity 125 was designed and introduced for British Rail over 40 years ago and some still remain in use today, and while the HST would probably have been designed no matter what, Sir Kenneth designed a masterpiece, the shape and layout which has changed rail travel for ever. Nothing that came before or after has ever matched the iconic Intercity 125. In May 2016, Great Western power car 43002 was named after its designer, Sir Kenneth Grange and repainted into Intercity 125 livery. When it was withdrawn from service it was presented to the National Railway Museum in York to join the National Collection. In the picture above we see 43002 power along the Dawlish sea wall with a train from Plymouth to London Paddington on 25/06/16 RIP Sir Kenneth Grange 17/07/1929 - 22/07/2024 #sirkennethgrange #class43 #dawlish #britishrail #britishrailways #highspeedtrain #intercity125
